  • The Bcfg2 site is naturally the source for information. A good place to look is at the publications page on the site. There are many papers on Bcfg2. Probably makes sense to start with the first one.
  • It's worth noting that some of the most recent presentations were at TeraGrid '07. (So they are looking at leveraging Bcfg2 as well). The slides from the presenations are informative if not very detailed. Gives a sense of what they are investigating.

BCFG: A Configuration Management Tool for Heterogeneous Environments

  • Paper documents BCFG (assume that's the precurser to Bcfg2. The abstract notes the requirement of their testbed cluster to support allowing users to replace/override any of their underlying OS. This directly relates to our interest in using Bcfg2 to maintain a reliable application configuration for clusters. Basically, we want to allow application communities to manage the execution environments on clusters. The should be able to deploy their app into a cluster and then insert jobs into that environment (the process is very similar to what one does on the BlueGene).
